In 1993 Fred Duncan, the founder and former Chairman of Grampian Country Food Group began a new farming venture, A J Duncan, focusing on arable production.

By 2007 the business owned and contract managed a total of 8,000 acres.

In 2010 our egg project was hatched. We began by upgrading 4 decommissioned specialist pig buildings into state-of-the-art enriched colony production houses.

In 2014 Duncan Farms was formed in order to further develop this rapidly growing egg venture.

By 2015 Duncan Farms had populated its first free range unit.

Since then Duncan Farms has expanded at a cracking rate and is now responsible for over 500,000 laying hens across the three systems; free range, barn and colony.

Meanwhile, A J Duncan now owns and contract manages over 11,100 acres of land, of which 5,800 is utilised for arable cropping. The cereals produced from the arable enterprise are used for mixing our own feed for our rapidly growing flock.

The manure from the hens is returned as fertility to the land to feed the next crop of grain, thus making a truly integrated model which is the key to our success and future plans.
